Activities in Austin - Helping Keep the lbs Off

March 28th, 2007

I know that Austin is known for its outdoor activities, but for those of us who aren’t as interested in biking every Saturday morning, I know of some great alternatives.

The 23rd Street Artists Market is a great place to do some shopping and people watching. It is an open-air crafts market, located just across from the UT campus on “The Drag.” Artists can rent space to show and sell their unique arts and crafts. Everything is featured here from paintings to clothes and jewelry. Saturday is the best day to go and be sure to bring cash, because some of the items there are too good to pass up!

If you are like me, you probably don’t want to spend your weekends walking around a museum, but the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum is different. This museum has three floors of exhibits and the best parts are the special effects Texas Spirit Theater, the café and IMAX theatre. This museum is home to Austin’s only IMAX theatre and if you have never been to an IMAX before, go tomorrow. Right now they are showing Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs, its both educational and entertaining. It doesn’t get much better than that.
